This initial consultation is one of the most important appointments you’ll have, and we do our best to make it a stress-free experience for you. The first step towards a straighter smile
Whether your appointment is at our Bellaire or Pearland office, you’ll receive a warm welcome and a quick tour to help you feel comfortable before your first time in the orthodontist chair. One of our doctors will then perform a thorough oral examination to evaluate your need for orthodontic care and determine the best treatment option. After this exam is complete, we’ll make diagnostic records, including medical and dental history and photos of your face and teeth. We’ll also take a few X-rays to evaluate the bone health, structure, and position of your teeth, and do an iTero optical scan (instead of messy impressions that can make you gag!)
The information in these records is then used to develop a customized treatment plan for you. We also use them to track the progress of your teeth as they move under orthodontic care. Because treatment is a substantial investment of your time and finances, we want to ensure you understand each step of the orthodontic process as we go. We never want you to feel rushed or like your questions and concerns aren’t answered! Once we’ve evaluated all the available information, we’ll sit down with you and discuss:
- any orthodontic issues we find
- what treatment options we have available to correct the problem
- an estimate of how long we expect your treatment to take
- the total expected cost of treatment
- any payment or financing options we have available to you

The next steps
Once your consultation is complete, we’ll schedule an appointment for you to receive your new orthodontic appliance. You’ll be scheduled for follow-up appointments every 6-12 weeks or so throughout the process, depending on the type of treatment. During these appointments, our doctors will adjust your appliance if necessary, and check that your treatment is progressing according to the plan they’ve laid out for your smile.
These visits are part of your orthodontic treatment, so it’s important that you don’t skip them. We understand that life happens, though! We do our best to make sure appointments are scheduled for a day and time that’s convenient for you, but we know that things can come up where you’re running late or can’t make your appointment. If this occurs, we simply ask that you let us know as soon as possible. This way we can reschedule your appointment so your treatment doesn’t fall behind.
